Trauma Surgeon Needed for Locum Tenens Coverage in Indiana

A level 2 trauma facility in Indiana is in need of a locum tenens trauma surgeon to cover seven consecutive 24-shifts for 1 or 2 stretches per month. Shifts are broken up into primary and back-up blocks and may be from 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. The first 12-hour block will be primary in-house, and the second 12-hour block will be back-up call from home with a 30-minute response time. Responsibilities include responding to all trauma codes, emergency general surgery, and rounding in the ICU on trauma patients only. There are also a few hours of follow-up in the clinic 1 day per week with an advanced practitioner. Notes are entered into EMR. Candidates must be board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care (ACS or trauma) with ATLS and PALS certifications. Additional requirements include 2 years of recent trauma or acute care surgery experience plus case logs. This facility has an annual volume of 24,000 with a trauma admission rate of 900 per year (90% blunt, 8% penetrating).
