The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI (http://www.madison.va.gov/) is a 129-bed facility that provides tertiary medical, surgical, neurological, and psychiatric care, and a full range of outpatient services.

OUTPATIENT/GENERAL MENTAL HEALTH (GMH)

Be a part of a clinical team with duties divided between program development, patient care and educational programing, including collaboration our nationally recognized inter-professional education program. Our GMH team is focused on team- based, evidence- driven care and we are at the forefront of using outcome measures to ensure the best care for our Veterans. Educational and research opportunities are available for qualified applicants. If the physician has appropriate qualifications, they can receive a faculty appointment in the University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry.

INPATIENT
Seeking an energetic team member to work as an Inpatient Psychiatrist in our 16 bed hospital facility. Responsibility for psychiatric inpatients is shared between two full-time, inpatient Psychiatrists who are supported by the unit's Nurse Manager, Pharmacist, Social Workers and multiple other staff including Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Registered Nurses and Psychiatry Residents. If the physician has appropriate qualifications, they may receive a faculty appointment in the UW Department of Psychiatry and research opportunities are also available for qualified applicants. This is a great opportunity for a far-sighted physician who is looking forward to enhancing evidence based care and developing patient-centered initiatives in a high- performance environment.

ADDICTIONS
The Madison VA uses an interdisciplinary team model of addictions treatment and the Psychiatrists in this position would be a core member of this treatment team. The Psychiatrist would have the opportunity to serve Veterans in an Outpatient Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Clinic and would also have the opportunity to teach and be involved in research if desired. This is a great opportunity for a physician looking to be at the forefront of evidence-based, interdisciplinary and Veteran-centered addictions treatment.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday day shift - 1-2 evenings per month

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
